Another reason to love the Volkswagen Golf GTI

If you don’t already love the Volkswagen Golf you certainly should consider a few more facts before passing judgement or deciding you don’t want a hatchback.  The Golf is one of the best performing hatchbacks ever made and gives off some great performance and power for you to take full advantage of, but what you don’t know is the Golf also won the Motor Trend Car of the Year Award for 2015.  If you didn’t already think highly of this car, it’s time to consider what the Golf offers you that many other cars do not.

As a driving purist, you can easily notice a difference in the Golf.  For the average driver, something will feel different, which might not be immediately understood.  The Golf has a new look which is sleeker and sportier.  The one inch lower, two inches longer and half an inch wider size might not show up right away, but it certainly makes a difference in the driving and the overall appeal.  Because the Golf has a more mature appearance that doesn’t go over the top it appeals to a wide range of age groups, making one of the most universally accepted cars on the market today.

On the inside you will certainly feel as if the car should be put in the luxury category.  The lines and surfaces are smooth and flowing with details abound in the dash and instrumentation.  The updated touchscreen interface, supportive seats, door pockets for storage and noticeably nice touches like the small ball-style shifter nob and two-toned upholstery.

Across the automotive industry companies are working to reduce weight in order to have more efficiency from the engines installed.  With these weight reductions many are finding they can get good power from smaller engines.  This is true with the Golf as well for both the TSI and GTI the engines are more efficient and make the most use of the power included.  The 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engines are able to offer better performance while using gasoline and the Golf offers a lineup that includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that makes 36 mpg on the highway.  If that’s not enough for you, the e-Golf also offers an all-electric range of 83 miles to be one of the most efficient cars to drive, bringing in some great fuel mileage for you to enjoy and select the right Golf for your needs.

One of the most noticeable differences with the Golf over other models is the fact the electric version looks much like the gasoline and diesel powered variants.  The e-Golf shows up with the same feeling of driving and great looks as the others in the lineup while giving you the instant torque you want and need from an electric vehicle, making it a very energetic vehicle to enjoy.

As mentioned, the Golf has benefited from a weight reduction.  This is a total of about 200 pounds over previous generations and makes for an excellent change for the performance.  This engineering feat shows a difference by adding the high-strength but lighter steel in many places including the body, seats, air condition system and chassis.  All this weight loss in a vehicle that is overall larger makes a huge difference in the car to be a great vehicle to drive and enjoy.

No matter what Golf model you choose, you will get a fantastic vehicle to drive, which is why this car is lauded and donned with the award it so richly deserves.  The various models are all made to give a similar performance, with only the variations being the difference in power on any drivetrain.  Isn’t it time you had the car you need that gives you the performance you deserve, the Golf is that car for you to love and admire for many years.
