The United States Army Corps of Engineers was given the monumental task of dewatering the American Falls in 1969. The purpose was for The Albert Elia Construction Company of Niagara Falls to build a temporary enclosure and to remove a 600 foot cofferdam, so that it redirected the water from the American channel.
