Sony and Honda have teamed up to create the next innovative EV. Honda has hybrids that you can find at any Honda dealer, but the company has decided it’s time to dive head-first into the fully electric auto market. With brands such as Tesla and Ford competing at the top, creating an EV that could share the spotlight will be a difficult task.
Sony, a brand that does many things but is known for their movies and video games, is teaming up with Honda to create the next big thing, a fully electric vehicle. This new venture has been named Sony Honda Mobility Inc, and the purpose of this new brand is to create a new, innovative EV, which is to be called Afeela. Consumers and news outlets were able to see the car presented for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The chief executive, Yasuhide Mizuno, presented the prototype and announced that the vehicle will be available to purchase in 2025 and that Amerca can expect to see this car on the market in 2026. Mizuno asserts that the aim of the Afeela is to be an interactive experience between car and driver.
Interactive and Innovative
One of the most important aspects of the Afeela is that it is going to be highly interactive. With EVs having semi-self-driving technology, brands must make EVs more interactive and easier to handle. And with Afeela’s 45 cameras and sensors inside and out, Sony Honda Mobility Inc. aims to make the vehicle more intelligent. Making driving safer and having features that make sure the driver is focused and engaged is a must.
Afeela will be using Unreal Engine graphics technology for their screens and displays. This is the same technology, partnered with Epic Games, that created the highly popular game, Fornite, which gets more than 350 Million players yearly. The same technology was used in the Hummer EV. The Afeela is said to come with a host of entertainment options, and if it is going to be anything like the Tesla, we know that list is going to be a long one.
Consumer Expectations
2025 is not that far away, so consumers have to consider what is to come before they can find Afeela at the Honda dealer. Honda is in charge of the engineering of the vehicle, while Sony is in charge of entertainment, infotainment, sound, and other pleasure features.
Self-driving seems to be the next big thing, but there are lots of hurdles o clear before this becomes a reality. Even Tesla, the world’s premier EV maker, is struggling to make this happen. Honda and Sony aim to make this more of a reality when the car comes out in 2025. The 45 cameras and sensors will make this feat more possible but also safer for the driver and any passengers.
What consumers can expect is a car packed to the brim with performance and a vehicle that exceeds said expectations. Honda and Sony are in the process of making history. Let’s see if they can pull it off.
