Officially Ridiculous: Wacky World Records that Make You Say Wait, What?

There’s pretty much a world record for everything. Even things that you didn’t know or thought needed to be recorded. From the bizarre to the downright strange, here are some of the wackiest world records ever set right here in the U.S.

World’s Largest Baseball Bat

The largest baseball bat ever made can be found right in Louisville, KY. It stretches for 120 feet right to the sky and weighs 68,000 pounds. It’s called The Big Bat and is a replica of Babe Ruth’s Louisville Slugger Bat.
It lives at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, so if you’re ever in the area, you can go see this exact-scale replica for yourself.

Stop Blowing Bubbles!

Maybe if your mom didn’t tell you to stop blowing bubbles with your bubble gum, you could have given Chad Fell from Alabama a run for his money. He clearly didn’t listen and kept practicing his bubble blowing, because he holds the world record for the largest pink bubble. It was 20 inches and only took three pieces of Dubble-Bubble gum.

Are Those Real Mustaches?

If you’ve ever been to an event with a photo booth and props for taking fun pictures, you may have worn a false mustache, but did you know that there is a world record for the most people to gather together wearing one? It happened at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, in 2015.
The Denver Broncos and University of Colorado Health gathered 6,471 people together and gave them orange mustaches to wear so they could match the Broncos’ team colors.

Light Up Those Pumpkins

Keene, New Hampshire, is known for its annual pumpkin festival, which includes a display of jack-o-lanterns. In 2013, they officially set a world record for the most lit jack-o-lanterns on display at one time. The town got together and carved, lit, and displayed 30,581 pumpkins.
What’s even more impressive is that the town broke its own record several times since 2013.

Making Snow Angels

In a state that is known for its winter weather, what better way to celebrate a fresh snowfall than by making snow angels? The State Historical Society of North Dakota came up with the idea to set a record for the most people making snow angels simultaneously, so they gathered 8,962 people and they all lay down in the snow to make their angels at the same time.

Grab Those Apples

Bobbing for apples is a popular fall activity, but did you ever think to gather hundreds of people to do it all at the same time? The United Healthcare Community Plan of Ohio did. In September 2011, they had 597 bobbers all going at the same time.
They set up 60 tables and stationed 10 bobbers at every table. Each bobber had their own bucket of 10 apples. They would have set the record with 600 people, but three were disqualified for using their hands.
