When Sunday, October 3, arrives, the MLB season will be over, and we will know which teams are participating in the playoffs.
It’s been a long season with games through 26 weeks, and only one left to give us the final teams. Some teams are still trying to secure that final spot, while others have been on autopilot for a while, having secured their position a couple of weeks ago.
As Expected, the San Francisco Giants Lead the Way
For most of the season, the Giants have been on top of this list and have been winning games at a pace that has led the way. As the season winds down, they still have the Dodgers on their heels, but a 102-54 record has helped them stay in the lead. All year, this team has been the first to every win marker along the way.
Second Belongs to the Los Angeles Dodgers
Right on the heels of the Giants, the Dodgers and their 100-56 record are the only reason the Giants have not been able to relax yet. The difference between these two is either a home-field advantage or playing in a one-game Wild Card scenario. Both teams are assured spots in the MLB playoffs this year but where they end up is yet to be determined.
We See the Tampa Bay Rays in the Third Spot
The Rays have a 97-59 record after 26 weeks, and they have secured the AL East division title this past week. This means the Rays are in the playoffs and will likely be the top AL team in the league. The MLB playoffs will begin next week and include this team that has been leading the AL East for several weeks and could be the toughest team in the junior circuit.
The Milwaukee Brewers Continue to Hold the Fourth Spot
Another team that has secured a spot in the postseason is the Brewers. This team has led the NL Central for most of the season and holds a 94-62 record after 26 weeks. Will this be the team that is hard for others to get past on the way to the World Series, or will the Brewers have a hard time against other NL teams?
The Houston Astros will be Part of the Playoffs
You’re going to see a theme as we go through the final installment of this list on the way to the MLB playoffs. The Astros are another team that has secured victory in their division and will be in the playoffs. A record of 91-65 keeps them in the lead of the AL West division. This is a team that will be trying to make its way to the World Series once again.
Sixth Belongs to the New York Yankees
Currently, in the lead of the AL Wild Card standings, the Yankees could be a team that gives others trouble when it’s time for the postseason. This team has an 89-67, record and that is enough to put them where they should be right now. The Yankees are also still trying to fight for their spot with several games to go against division foes.
The Boston Red Sox are in the Seventh Spot
If you’re watching how the various teams are going on the way to the MLB playoffs, you’ll find that the Red Sox have been up and down the standing many times. At one time, this team had a stranglehold on the AL East, and now they are barely in the second spot in the Wild Card standings. Their 88-68 record has them still in the hunt for this postseason game.
We See the Chicago White Sox in the Eighth Spot
As you might expect, another team that has secured a playoff position is the White Sox. After 26 weeks, this team holds an 88-68 record to be securely in the lead of the AL Central Division. Will the White Sox find a way to win a playoff series? We will begin to find out next week.
