The MLB Power Rankings seem to have some consistency to them right now. The teams that are at the top are expected to remain there.
While there might only be some shaking up of the postseason teams in the Wild Card ranks, it’s still a good idea to see which teams are making it to the top part of the list. We know that ten teams will be part of the playoffs, which ten will they be?
The San Francisco Giants Have Punched Their Ticket
Holding the top spot on this list for yet another week, the Giants have found their way to entering the playoffs. The only challenge left is to hold onto the NL West lead that has been theirs for a long time. The Giants currently hold a 94-50 record which gives them a slim lead over the second-place team.
Second In this List Belongs to the Los Angeles Dodgers
You would think that a 92-53 record would be enough to put a time far in the lead in a division, but that’s just not the case in the NL West. The defending World Series champions are second in the MLB Power Rankings for another week and the Dodgers will certainly be in the playoffs with the Giants. We just might see these top two teams face each other.
Adversity is Hitting the Tampa Bay Rays
Sitting in the third spot on this list, the Rays hold an 89-55 record to lead the AL East. Even though it doesn’t seem that any other team will challenge their lead, the Rays dropped two of three to the Tigers and then were defeated by the Blue Jays over the last week. This adversity comes along with an injury that might cause this team to be shorthanded when the playoffs arrive.
Steady in Fourth, We find the Milwaukee Brewers
After a combined no-hitter this week and a huge lead in the NL Central, the Brewers hold onto a strong 89-55 record that puts them in the fourth position on this list. They have been in this spot in the MLB Power Rankings for most of the season and they continue to be a complete team that will be hard to beat.
The Houston Astros are Still in Fifth
The AL West has been one of the weakest divisions in baseball all year long, although the A’s and Mariners have been close to the Wild Card race. The Astros have held a lead for a long time and continue to do so with the 84-59 record they currently hold. With a 6 ½ game lead and fewer than 20 games left, the Astros seem to be a lock for the postseason.
Continued Excellence from the Chicago White Sox
The sixth position in our MLB Power Rankings belongs to the White Sox and they hold an 82-61 record that keeps them firmly in the lead of the AL Central division. This team will likely finish the season in this position and are also likely to be healthy at the right time. Get ready to see the White Sox have a strong run in the playoffs.
The Toronto Blue Jays Move into Seventh
The Blue Jays have been on a hot streak lately and have moved up from the ninth spot on this list to the seventh position. They currently hold a lead in the Wild Card race with an 81-63 record. This team to the north has beaten up on division foes lately, which puts them in the position where they could be hosting a Wild Card Game.
The Boston Red Sox Hold Onto the Eight Position
While they haven’t taken the lead in the Wild Card race they also haven’t dropped out of contention over the past week. the Red Sox continue to experience success and hold onto a position that may land them in the playoffs. Their current record of 81-65 could be what takes them from where they are now to a postseason berth.
