You may have seen pictures of the beautiful flower fields of the Netherlands which is only one place to see the beauty of flowers in bloom.
When you think of traveling and vacations, there are a couple of images that typically come to mind-beautiful, white sand beaches, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty. These are all very popular and traditional tourism sites, but if you’re looking to go off the beaten path a little bit on your next trip, consider a more uncommon, but just as beautiful, site; a flower field.
Shikisai no Oka of Hokkaido, Japan
Hokkaido, Japan, is the northernmost main island of the country, and one of its tourism sites, called Shikisai no Oka, is filled with meticulously maintained rows of flowers. The rows of flowers pop with their vibrant, brilliant colors, and are made up of many different kinds of flowers, such as sunflowers, marigolds, roses, lavender, and more, with the kinds of flowers rotating and changing each season. The site is placed on top of a large hill, with a breathtaking view of mountains and farmland in the distance. To see the flowers in their peak bloom, visit during the late spring or summer, especially in the first or second week of July. This Japanese field is absolutely gorgeous, and definitely a must-visit flower site.
Hallerbos, Belgium’s Bluebells
Belgium is neighbors with the Netherlands and its tulip fields, but Belgium has its own flower fields to attract tourists. Located outside of the capital city of Brussels, Hallerbos is a stunning forest, full of tall, narrow trees, and its special attraction, a carpet of flowering bluebells. Usually, around the second half of April and the beginning of May, the bluebells begin to bloom, but the peak time can change based on weather. Hallerbos is also home to daffodils and other woodland flowers, but the bluebells are definitely its star. If you are looking for a place for a relaxing hike, or a place to spend an enjoyable day in Europe, check out the bluebell forest carpet in Belgium.
Meadows at Mount Rainier National Park
Mount Rainier National Park, which is located in Washington, United States, encapsulates its namesake volcano, as well as beautiful wildflower meadows around the base of Mount Rainier. These flower fields are so colorful and have such beautiful views, they are referred to as Paradise, and there are many established trails and hiking paths you can take to get views of both the flowers and the mountain. Make sure to time your visit for the late spring and early summer, as the flowers only bloom for a short period of time, and during the winter, the meadows get hundreds of inches of snow. This U.S. national park has an incredible mountain, as well as beautiful wildflower meadows for tourism.
Lake Tekapo, New Zealand’s Lupines
Lake Tekapo is one of New Zealand’s most popular tourism sites, and for good reason. It is located in the center of New Zealand’s southern island, as part of the Mackenzie Basin. The crystal-clear water and the amazing mountains in the background are reason enough to visit this New Zealand site, but the purple, cream, and pink-colored lupine flowers certainly add to its appeal, as well. The flowers are in full bloom starting in the middle of November and December, exploding with color and into their signature cone shape. Lake Tekapo is one of those rare, incredible places where it’s almost impossible to take a bad picture.
Kirstenbosch and Table Mountain National Park
Home to Africa’s southernmost point, the Cape of Good Hope, Kirstenbosch, and Table Mountain National Park is located in Cape Town, South Africa, and is one of the most biodiverse places in the entire world. The park alone contains more species of flora than the entire United Kingdom does, and some of them are endangered and do not exist anywhere outside of Cape Town. The park is filled with colorful daisies, watsonias, proteas, vugies, and pincushion flowers, and these paired with the incredible mountains and deep blue waters make this national park one for all travel lists. All around the world, there are flower fields bursting with beauty and color. The next time you are looking to expand your travel experience, and go off the beaten path, consider one of these beautiful tourist sites.
