Odd Laws Still on the Books: You Can’t Do This in These States

Laws are meant to help provide a safe guidance for all people, but some odd laws are still on the books that maybe should have been done away with.

In some places, the laws that are put in place seem like more of a nuisance than the things the laws are preventing. It seems strange to have laws to prevent some actions, but in other cases, you can probably understand why these laws began. Regardless, these are some odd laws that are still on the books and can be enforced in some states.

A few from Georgia

It might seem strange that one state has several of these laws that should probably have been outdated long ago, but Georgia is a great place to begin when you want a few of these oddities. One state law prohibits keeping donkeys in bathtubs, another states that people cannot keep ice cream cones in their back pockets on Sundays. A couple of local laws prevent wearing hoods in public in Dublin, GA, and stored cannot sell corn flakes on Sunda in Columbus, GA.

Maryland hates oral sex

Regardless of how you feel about it, the entire state of Maryland prevents it. There is a law in the state making oral sex illegal in any form and with people or animals. Having laws against bestiality is understandable, but outlawing consensual acts between adults is ridiculous. You can probably guess that this law hasn’t been enforced for decades, which means its one of the odd laws still on the books that should probably be deleted from the records.

Don’t drink with moose in Alaska

If you thought you might enjoy turning a moos into your drinking buddy, you won’t be doing it in Alaska. Its illegal to give a moose any alcoholic beverages in Fairbanks. This moose-specific law is likely for the safety of the animal and the people. Its hard to say way caused this law to become real, but it’s a strange one that should probably stay on the books and be enforced, if necessary. Of course, moose are pretty big and most people would have a hard time getting close enough to offer them a drink.

Onion curfew in Texas

One of the odd laws that’s certainly not been enforced in many years states that its illegal for young women to eat raw onions after 6 pm. It seems strange to have such an oddly specific law on the books, but its there. This isn’t the only law involving onions. In Northfield, Connecticut, its illegal to eat raw onions while walking down the street. The law in CT is much more understandable than the one in Texas. Its likely the Texas law was created during a much older time in the state’s history and would never be enforced today.

No faces at dogs

Two states have laws against making faces at dogs. In Oklahoma, that face needs to be one of mocking or stupidity, which seems a bit strange, but if you do this, you’ve committed a crime. Ohio is stricter than Oklahoma on the dog ace front. If you make any kind of face at a dog, you could receive a fine or be put in jail.

Don’t eat the frogs

This might be a law made to honor frogs in competition. In California, frog-jumping competitions are popular, which leads us to the next of the odd laws still on the books. If a frog dies during the competition, they are not allowed to be eaten. The body must be destroyed as soon as possible and may not be eaten or used for any other purpose. It seems that eating the frogs that don’t die in competition is perfectly acceptable. It would be interesting to find out if this law has ever had to be enforced.

Singing in Florida requires more clothes

Can you imagine sitting on the beach in Florida, enjoying the sun, wearing your swimsuit, and listening to music. Of course you can, that sounds like a great day during vacation, but don’t start singing along with the music. Its illegal to sing while in your swimsuit in this state. Its also illegal to sing along with the radio while walking by yourself. It seems like the Sunshine State is a no-fun zone for singing to your music.

These are just a few of the odd laws still on the books in some areas. Most of these laws sound absurd and ridiculous, which means you probably can’t imagine them being enforced, but they could be.
