How to Get Yourself Out of a Slump or Rut

How to Get Yourself Out of a Slump or Rut

Are you getting antsy for a change because you feel like you’re in a slump or a rut? Good news, you can make some simple changes and start a new path today.

Acknowledge Your Feelings to Leave a Slump or Rut

The first thing you need to do to get out of a slump or rut is to acknowledge your feelings and give them validation that yes, you have a right to feel the way you feel. Now, that you’ve done that, you can start finding ways to change your mood and improve how you feel because that stuck feeling won’t stay with you forever. You have the power to change your circumstances.

Free-Write

Free-writing and journaling are great ways to just dump everything you’re thinking and feeling and put it into words. Whether you prefer to journal by hand or keep a digital journal, you’ll feel better and have a much clearer mind when all your troubles, fears, concerns, all those upsetting emotions are out of you and into the universe. You can take a deep breath and start with a new, refreshed mindset, which will set you up for success to get out of that rut you’re in.

Be Spontaneous

Sometimes doing something out of the blue and unplanned can be good for you. Take a spontaneous weekend trip to a city you’ve always wanted to visit, or at the very least, buy your plane ticket, so you won’t have an excuse not to go. Whatever it is that’s something you’ve wanted to do, but may be too scared to do or try, plan it, do it. As long as it won’t harm you or bankrupt you, go out and embrace your spontaneity gene.

Do Something for Yourself

Now’s also the time to treat yourself to something just for you. Whether you’re someone who enjoys getting your hair or nails done, or you’ve been wanting the latest book or video game release, you deserve to buy or do something just for you. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for why you enjoy doing something. But if you’re feeling down and in a rut, then you can take some time to pamper yourself.

Never Forget Time Goes On and Your Slump or Rut Doesn’t Have to

If you’re feeling stuck in a rut or feeling down, don’t forget that this is a small chapter in your life that you’ll overcome and move past with strength and determination. Some things may be out of your control, but for the things, you can control, take it in stride, and have confidence in yourself to shake things off and work toward what will make you happy and leave that stuck feeling behind.
